AC repair is probably not on your to-do list today or ever. And it’s not something you can plan for, no matter how hard you try. Or is it? If you pay attention to your AC unit, you can watch for signs that there are repair needs. Ignoring the signs means that they will only worsen as time goes on.

If you think that you need air conditioner repair in Hickory, our team can help. In the meantime, you can keep reading to learn more about the signs to watch for that indicate you need to schedule an AC repair appointment.

Warm Airflow

When your AC is set to cooling mode, you should never feel warm air coming out of the vents. Feeling lukewarm or warm air is a big sign of AC problems. Even if your home still feels comfortable, you need to address the problem.

First, you can check your thermostat settings and make sure that they are correct. If your thermostat is not the problem, there may be an issue with airflow inside of your air conditioner or your compressor may not be working. Give us a call to take a closer work instead of trying to come up with a DIY solution or you may do more damage than good, even with the best intentions.

Low Airflow

Airflow in and of itself can also be a problem. When you hold your hand up to an air vent, the air should feel cold. But it should also feel strong. You should never question whether air is coming out of the vents when your air conditioner is turned on. Poor airflow is a sign that there’s a blockage or a leak somewhere inside the system. You could have a clogged air filter, a problem with the motor, or holes in your air ducts.

Short Cycling

Your AC turns on and off throughout the day. Your thermostat signals when the indoor temperature gets too warm and the AC turns on to cool the rooms until they reach your desired temperature. This process repeats all day long so that your family stays comfortable.

But if you notice your air conditioner turning on and off at frequent intervals, that’s a problem. If your home is still comfortable, you may be tempted to ignore this problem. But doing so can lead to enough wear and tear on the system until it breaks down completely.

Humidity Levels

Your air conditioner helps to cool your home, and part of that process is removing some of the humidity from the air. Your AC unit should help you to maintain a moderate humidity range that is considered healthy. This can vary a little bit based on where you live and your individual AC unit, but the humidity should never feel uncomfortable.

If your house feels too humid, that’s a sign that your AC needs repairs. It may need to be recalibrated, or you may need to think about installing a whole home dehumidifier to take some of the strain off your air conditioner.
