We have some bad news–air conditioners don’t last forever!
Okay, you probably already knew that. But do you know how long your air conditioner is meant to last? It does depend on a few factors: the system’s manufacturer, the model of air conditioner, and of course how well you care for it. The latter means that you have your system professionally maintained once a year (or twice a year if you have a heat pump) and that you use it as efficiently as possible.
The average lifespan for a well-maintained cooling system is about 10-15 years. Now, that doesn’t mean it can’t last longer than this. But you’ll be doing your home comfort and your utility bills a disservice if you ignore the signs that your aging AC is actually failing and is just about ready to be replaced. But what if you don’t know the signs? That’s what we’re here for.
