5 Ways to Tell You Need AC Repairs

checklist-with-red-marker

We have good news! You can stay ahead of AC repairs simply by learning the signs of early AC problems. Then, you can get small things fixed before they become big and expensive repairs. Our team can help you with tips for identifying AC repairs early, and we can also help with AC repair in Lenoir when the time comes. In the meantime, you can keep reading our tips for how to tell when it’s time to schedule your AC for a repair appointment.

Loud Noises

Loud noises are usually the most obvious sign that something is wrong with your air conditioner, aside from blatant malfunctions. If you hear any unusual sounds, even if they are not particularly loud, that’s definitely a sign that something is wrong with your air conditioner.

If you only hear a loud sound one time, you may be tempted to ignore it and hope that everything is OK. But, it’s always better to be safe and have your air conditioner checked out rather than to ignore the loud sounds and have it cost thousands of dollars down the road.

Dusty Surfaces

It’s completely normal to have to wipe the surfaces of your home down every once in a while because of dust and dirt. However, if you’re dusting too frequently, that’s a sign that your air conditioner is in need of repair. More specifically, your ductwork is most likely in need of repair.

Small holes in your ducts can allow cool air to escape, but they also allow dust and dirt to get in and then blow through your home. The more dust you’re noticing, the bigger the problem is. Investing in duct cleaning and duct sealing is a great way to improve your health and lower your energy bills.

Weak Airflow

You should always feel a strong stream of cool air coming from an air vent in your home while your air conditioner is on for a cooling cycle. You may hold your hand up to an air vent and feel cool air, but if the airflow is not strong, there is some sort of problem. You may have poor airflow coming into your air conditioner via the vent where your air filter is. However, there’s also a possibility that cool air is escaping through your ductwork and never reaching your home.

High Energy Bills

There are two different problems that you can face when it comes to your energy pills. The first is a sudden spike in energy use that you can’t attribute to anything. Since your air conditioner is one of the largest appliances in your home, there’s a good chance that a spike in energy use may be caused by your air conditioner working harder.

The other problem you can have is energy bills that slowly creep up over time without relenting. It is completely normal for your energy costs to fluctuate from month to month and at different times of the year, but your bill should never go up month after month without stopping.

Short Cycling

This is a problem that happens when your air conditioner does not complete a cooling cycle. Instead, it cuts off early, leading to your air conditioner turning back on again within a few minutes. If you notice your air conditioner turning on and off what seems like constantly, it’s short cycling.

If your home is still comfortable, it’s easy to wave this off and think everything is okay. But, your AC is short cycling for a reason and it’s adding a lot of wear and tear to the system. You may not be experiencing any noticeable problems now, but if you ignore short cycling you will have problems in the future.
