Environmentally Friendly

Canella Heating & Air has been "green" even before it was popular.

Over a decade ago, company founder, Craig Canella, had the opportunity to study with the Advanced Energy Corporation in Raleigh. Advanced Energy is a company that since 1980 has been "developing innovative programs, conducting cutting-edge research and analyzing real-world effectiveness for energy issues in order to deliver tangible results with practical, sustainable solutions." Partnering with a couple of forward-thinking builders working for Habitat for Humanity, Craig was involved with building some of the first significantly Green homes in the Greater Hickory area.

Through these relationships, he became a trainer in techniques to help homeowners improve the return on their energy investment through the application of building science practices. Subsequently he was asked by Duke Power to help with diagnostic testing in residential applications. Through this experience he has become known as one of the area's top experts in matters of energy-efficiency, air quality, and environmental responsibility.

As an innovator in our area of environmentally friendly practices, Canella Heating & Air Conditioning has developed within its normal procedures practices such as the following.

  • We were using the new refrigerant R410A (which does not harm the ozone layer) two years before the government mandated it because "it was the proper thing to do."
  • We recycle all of their cardboard and scrap metal.
  • We recover the refrigerants from old equipment and send it off to be cleaned and reclaimed.
  • We collect mercury in old equipment and have it disposed of properly.
  • We offer multi-stage and modulating HVAC equipment, which is more energy efficient.
  • We train our technicians on proper installation methods to reduce wastage.
  • We advise homeowners about equipment that will be appropriate for their home based on building science principles.
